Making bilingual education fun is vital to your child learning their target language. Bilingual education is a great way to help children learn English and their native language. It is also a great way to help children learn to be bilingual. Bilingual education helps children learn English and their native language in a fun, interactive, and creative way. It help children learn other skills such as how to speak more accurately, how to retain information, how to learn new languages, how to communicate more effectively, and how to be more confident. In this article, I will introduce you to a few ways to make bilingual education more fun and interactive.
1. Reading in native language then translating to target language.
It is important to make bilingual education more fun for your child. This can be done by involving them in the process of learning a new language. For example, you can start by reading a book to your child in their native language and then translating it into their target language. This will help them develop a love for reading and will help them learn the new language. Another way to make bilingual education more fun is to involve your child in a new language game. This can be played in the car while you are on your way to school or at home. This will not only help your child learn the new language but will also help them develop a love for learning new things.
2. Include games and activities in the teaching of the target language.
One way to make bilingual education more fun is to include games and activities in your classroom or at home. These games and activities will allow students to use the second language they are learning in a fun and interactive way. There are some games that are best for children, but there are also games that are perfect for adults. Examples of games that are perfect for children are hide and seek, musical chairs, and Simon Says Hangman and Bingo. I personally love hangman for very young children as it help in learning the alphabet and learning new words at the same time. A single method or a combination of methods can be used depending on the time and resources you have at hand.
3. Use a range of language resources.
Learning can become boring and a be a drag if the same thing is done all the time. For children to learn a new language you should make sure that you are using a variety of activities. For example, you could have the children work on a puzzle while they are learning a language. Another way you can make bilingual education more fun is to have the children do some sort of activity while they are working on the language. You could have them work on a craft, play a game, or sing a song. The key to making bilingual education more fun is to have a variety of resources, activities, and games that the children can choose from. This approach also takes care of their different learning style. Some children might be an auditory, visual or Kinaesthetic learner. Using a wide range of resources will also enable your child to find what he or she likes.
4. Involve your child in their learning
You can involve your child in their learning in many different ways to make it more engaging for them. For example, you could involve your kids in the process of learning a new language by having them help you choose words to use in a story. You then get them to read the story and share it with others if they want to. They could also be be involved in the process of teaching their own language to other kids. My son in his early stage of learning French used to translate what the French teacher was saying to his other English speaking classmates. This boosted his confidence. He also teaches me aspect of French when I am struggling. All these activities consolidate what he has been taught.
5. Make learning a challenge
A child who loves learning will love a challenge. Challenges can be anything really, bottom line they add excitement and variety to learning. Challenges must involve the use of all their bilingual skills. Challenges can be done by creating a puzzle that requires bilingual skills. It could also be in the form of a learning treasure hunt, making a learning puzzle, and making and doing a bilingual scavenger hunt. The ways to make a challenge is endless, just go for what suit you and and your child.
I would love to hear what you do for fun with your bilingual child. Please leave a comment with your suggestions or ides.
